Municipal Court

The City of Okmulgee is now taking online Billpay payments through our Billpay portal. You will need to contact the Court Clerk's office at (918)-758-1185, to obtain your case number and amount of fine. Online Billpay is only for payments in full.

If you receive a municipal ticket and wish to plea bargain, please call (918)-758-1132. Michael R. Vanderburg is the city attorney. In particular, if you were cited for no driver's license or no current tag, a reduced charge and fine is possible if and only if you buy the license, or car tag and bring in proof prior to the court date printed on the ticket. In addition, if you received a ticket for no insurance or no proof of insurance in your possesion and if you actually had insurance at the time the ticket was issued, you must bring in proof of that insurance no later than the Friday before your court appearance to receive the dismissal of the charge and to protect your driver's license.

If you do not wish to challenge the ticket, you may come to City Hall at 111 East 4th Street and see the Court Clerk to pay the full amount. Court costs ($49.00) will be waived if you pay the fine in full prior to the court hearing.

Failure to pay the ticket or to come to court and enter a plea will result in a bench warrant. We use the Okmulgee Criminal Justice Authority (e.g., Okmulgee County) for jail services. The maximum fine for some repeat offenses is $750.00 plus city and state costs, per offense, as ordered by the Judge. The maximum fine on most other charges is $500 plus city and state costs per offense.

Judge Bill Barksdale presides over the Okmulgee Municipal Court, which is held on Monday afternoons. The Municipal Court processes violations of city ordinances resulting from citizen complaints, traffic citations, and misdemeanor arrests. The Municipal Judge is appointed by the City Manager. Arraignments are usually conducted the 2nd Monday in every month at 2:00, 3:00, or 4:00 p.m. in the Municipal Courtroom in City Hall. Trials are usually conducted on the first Monday of each month at 2:00 p.m. followed by a warrant docket at 3:00 p.m. Juvenile court is held on the 3rd Monday of the month at 3:30 p.m. for arraignments and 3:00 p.m. for trials.

Dates and times are subject to change. If a holiday falls on a Monday scheduled for any of the aforementioned events, expect these scheduled events to change, but our court days are always on Monday afternoons. If you are uncertain how the court schedule will be for any given month, contact the Municipal Court Clerk at (918)-758-1185 for additional information and to confirm court dates and times. Payment plans are reviewed by the court on the 3rd Monday of the month at 1:00 p.m.
